Will Microsoft back off and provide a stay of execution for XP?

June 24th, 2008 by Karen

I was reading yesterdays Financial Times and an article by Richard Waters about XP and Vista was of interest, in this Kevin Johnson, head of the Windows division at Microsoft had the following to say about a possible XP extension

“We’ll announce what we’re doing whenever we’re ready to announce. The number one priority is we want to take great care of our customers. The fact is today that any customer that buys the business version of Vista has downgrade rights to XP anyway. So, XP is available to them. The fact is we’re going to support XP for many, many years to come, we’re going to support Windows Vista for many, many years to come. The priority is taking care of our customers.”

Great comment! But how does this helpt the general consumer?

With time running out and the end of the month (XP’s deadline is 30 June) fast approaching Dell a leading computer manufacturer has extended its sales of XP on the companies Web Site for a couple of days to meet “popular demand”, its good to see that a company listens to its customers, I thought that was what Microsoft were meant to be doing, perhaps they should pay closer attention to what consumers want or they may face losing them to Apple and Linux!
