Vista SP1 adoption rate nears 90%
August 23rd, 2008 by KarenThe adoption rate for Vista SP1 has hit record levels according to a recent study by Devil Mountain software. According to the report nearly 86% of Vista users have adopted SP1.
There could be two reasons behind the high adoption rate. The first is that Vista users were unhappy with the release version of the operating system and hope that SP1 will solve most of the problems. The second is that all new computers come preinstalled with Vista SP1.
According to InformationWeek, Devil Mountain researchers have stated that the high adoption rate is: “either due to customer dissatisfaction with the product or because users were convinced of its benefits from all of the media hype surrounding its release.”
From my own experience and following numerous discussions with users and businesses I do not believe that anyone is convinced of the benefits present in Windows Vista and are sticking with Windows XP
As for Windows XP SP3, the Devil Mountain Software report states that there is less than a 50% adoption rate, researchers are quoted as saying: “Most likely because, overall, the majority of users are quite happy with Windows XP + Service Pack 2.”
I find it difficult to understand why you would not update the service pack, it’s not that bad!
