Windows XP SP3 RTM & Windows Vista SP1 Downloads halted

Microsoft finalized the code for Windows XP SP3 last week and had planned to make it broadly available through Windows Update yesterday, 29 April. However automatic updates of both Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 has been halted in the wake of a newly discovered glitch

The problem prevents the Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System from working with either operating system update.

PC makers are finding ways to extend the life of XP

With the discontinuation deadline of Windows XP on 30 June 2008 fast approaching, some computer manufacturers are looking at different ways to continue to sell Windows XP on new computers to businesses

A recent report on the CNet News Web Site says that both Hewlett-Packard and Dell both plan to offer machines loaded with XP well beyond the June date by taking advantage of the “downgrade rights” offered as part of the Windows Vista license agreement.

XP SP3 RTM Build 5512 is leaked

As reported previously, the general availability of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) was scheduled by Microsoft to start on the 29 April 2009 through Windows Update and the Download Center.

However, as soon as XP SP3 hit RTM on the 21 April 2008, and Microsoft started shipping the first gold builds to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and close partners, the final version was leaked and made available for download from various third parties

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) RTM Is Finally Here

Chris Keroack the Release Program Manager of Windows Serviceability at Microsoft announced yesterday as expected the release to manufacturing of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) on the TechNet forum

He wrote: Today we are happy to announce that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) has released to manufacturing (RTM). Windows XP SP3 bits are now working their way through our manufacturing channels to be available to OEM and Enterprise customers.”

Microsoft warns of web server flaw – Advisory 951306

Microsoft is investigating a newly reported flaw that could put websites at risk of attack, affected operating systems include Windows XP Professional SP2, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. For a full list visit the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 951306

Microsoft has warned that companies that make extensive use of user-provided code, such as site hosts, are especially vulnerable.

Windows Vista SP1 now available for more languages

After the release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) last month in five languages, Microsoft yesterday announced that they have now finally made available through Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center the remaining supported languages (36 in total)

Windows XP SP3 RTM Release Date Scheduled

According to a recent article on the Neowin Website, Microsoft have scheduled the release of Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3 RTM for public download through the Windows Update and Download Center on the 29 April 2008, this will be the third and last service pack for Windows XP
