Microsoft yesterday announced on the Windows Team Blog that the Release Candidate (RC) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is now available for download to TechNet and MSDN subscribers to test prior to final release. The public should be able to download this via TechNet later next week

Almost a month after the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) issued a security alert, Microsoft has released a software update to some Windows users that fixes a long standing bug in the Windows AutoRun software.

Los Angeles resident Emma Alvarado last week filed a lawsuit in a Seattle federal court against Microsoft over the $59.25 fee she was charged in mid 2008 to “downgrade” Windows Vista to Windows XP on her new Lenovo laptop
Alvarado argues Microsoft’s policies which restrict how firms can offer XP on new machines violates three Washington state laws by artificially increasing prices for both versions of Windows.

Malaysian blog TechARP.com has recently reported that to push Windows Vista Microsoft will offer consumers who buy a new computer with Windows Vista installed before 31 January 2010 a FREE Windows 7 upgrade

According to a leaked product roadmap Windows 7 is likely to be released to manufacturing in the last quarter of 2009, this appears to have become possible thanks to an accelerated production schedule with the current beta edition expected to be the last stage before a ‘finished’ version.
