A German computer science student has hacked the final version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 (IE8)
Questions had arisen about the exploitability of IE8 almost immediately after the Pwn2Own hack because Nils, the German student who gave only his first name, hacked IE8 Release Candidate 1 (RC1), while Microsoft released the final code less than 24 hours later.

Microsoft late last week posted a Windows 7 Release Candidate (RD) download page on their TechNet Evaluation site indicating that the Release Candidate (RC) of Windows 7 will be available in May 2009, click here to view an image
The download page read: “You don’t need to rush to get Windows 7 RC…. The RC release will be available at least through June 2009 and we’re not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.”

Dean Hachamovitch Internet Explorer General Manager announced during a keynote speech at MIX09 in Las Vegas late last week that the final release of Internet Explorer (IE) 8 for Windows XP SP2 and SP3, Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Vista (RTM), SP1 and SP2 is now available for download.
Currently, IE8 is only available as a manual download from Microsoft’s main download center and the IE8 page. The company will begin automatically installing the new browser on machines now running IE6 or IE7 at an unspecified later date

According to a recent report from Neowin.net Microsoft will deliver a Release Candidate (RC) of Windows 7 to the public in late May
Microsoft have not set a final date for the Windows 7 RC, although Chaitanya Sareen, a senior program manager on the Windows team has blogged about the changes that developers have made to the operating system since the public beta was released in January

Microsoft yesterday announced in a post on the Windows Engineering blog another 27 changes to Windows 7 based on user feedback, most are simple usability changes, although some bug fixes are outlined

Microsoft has now confirmed that users will be able to remove Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), as well as several other integrated applications, from their new client operating system, Windows 7.
In an entry to the Engineering Windows 7 blog, Jack Mayo, a Microsoft group program manager on the Windows team, listed the applications that can be switched off. They include Internet Explorer 8, Fax and Scan, handwriting recognition, Windows DVD Maker, Windows Gadget Platform, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, Windows Search, and XPS Viewer and Services.

Further to my post back on February 17 Los Angeles resident Emma Alvarado has now revised her lawsuit against Microsoft over Windows Vista’s downgrade rights to focus her charges on the requirement that users must buy the most expensive versions of Windows Vista if they want to replace it with Windows XP.
The revised lawsuit details how Microsoft allegedly profits from its Vista downgrade practices. In particular, the complaint now highlights the rules that limit downgrades to Windows XP Professional, and then, only from PCs that have Vista Business or Vista Ultimate pre-installed.

The Release Candidate (RC) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 was made available for download to TechNet and MSDN subscribers last week, the Windows Team Blog has now announced that this is now available for download by anyone interested in testing SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 prior to final release.
To download the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RC visit the Microsoft Customer Preview Program site.
