Microsoft makes available the Windows 7 Family Pack for pre-order

Microsoft has released their Windows 7 Family Pack for pre-order on several online retailer Web sites prior to the official release of Windows 7 on October 22

The Family Pack allows users to install Windows 7 Home Premium for a reduced price on up to three PCs in a household that already has a version of Windows installed.

Windows 7 prices to rise in Europe

Following Microsoft’s decision to ditch the “E” version of Windows 7 in Europe, Microsoft yesterday announced that they will raise prices for non-upgrade editions of Windows 7 sold in Europe starting on 1 September 2009. In countries that use the euro, increases will range from €20 to €80; they will range between £30 and £70 in the U.K.

Windows 7 can be used for up to 120 days without providing a product activation key

Do you want to try the full version of Windows 7? Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 can be used for up to 120 days without providing a product activation key

Microsoft generally sets a 30-day time limit for users to activate their copies of the Windows operating system. Using a little-known command designed for corporate administrators, anyone can “reset” the countdown up to three times, to give a total of 120 days before having to enter the product activation key.

Windows 7 RC Downloads will end on the 20 August

Although Windows 7 has been released to manufacturing (RTM) and MSDN and TechNet subscribers have free access to this, other users may still want a free copy of Windows 7. Microsoft have made available the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) which is not the same as the RTM build that Microsoft sent to computer makers several weeks ago, but it is a reliable and stable version.

Microsoft patches more bugs in security update

Microsoft looking into reports of a potential bug in Windows 7 RTM.

The issue raised on the Chris123NT.com blog earlier this week, involves the CHKDSK command which can be used to check for problems on a particular disk. It is suggested that under certain scenarios, Windows 7 will quickly utilise all the available memory to perform the scan, potentially crashing the system.
