Microsoft yesterday launched its free security software suite, which has been in development for almost a year.
A Microsoft spokesman is reported to have stated: “Microsoft Security Essentials, the highly anticipated no-cost consumer security offering, will be released to the public tomorrow, September 29,”

According to a recent article on TechFlash, Microsoft will launch Windows 7 on the 13 October on new PC’s ahead of the 22 October official launch date
Jon Bach, president of Auburn-based Puget Systems Inc, reportedly stated that according to him, Microsoft has announced that small system builders will be able to sell Windows 7 on PCs the same day they receive license product keys, no later than October 13.

Microsoft is rolling out a new special offer on Windows 7 for UK students who will have the choice between Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional for as little as £30.
Microsoft stated: “You can take advantage of this offer from October 1st but you will need to be quick as it is for a limited time only and is only eligible to college and university students with a valid .EDU email address (an email address given by the college or university, for example: Suzanne at leeds.ac.uk), a PC that is currently running a genuine copy of Windows Vista or Windows XP and can run Windows 7”.

Microsoft support for Windows Server 2000 will end next July; at the same time Windows Server 2003 will switch to only receive limited support.
Crissy House, the Windows Server operations manager, used the Windows Server Division Web blog to confirm the support situation on Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003.

A recent Reuters press release has confirmed that after several years, the IEEE has finally approved the 802.11n wireless LAN standard.
802.11n is capable of delivering throughput speeds up to 300Mbps much higher than the already-ratified 802.11g standard, with speeds at only 54Mbps, as there is a substantial speed difference most wireless manufacturers have been offering 802.11n based products (also known as Wireless-N) during the past six years and calling them Draft N products.

Microsoft has confirmed that a bug in Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and the release candidates of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, could be used to hijack computers.
The vulnerability is in a Microsoft-made network file, and print-sharing protocol called the Server Message Block (SMB) 2, that ships with Windows. The SANS Internet Storm Center has published a short diary entry about the flaw.

Microsoft has now made Windows 7 Professional available to Microsoft partners at a 15 per cent discount until 28 February 2010, according to a post on the Windows Team blog.
Windows 7 Professional is the version aimed at small to medium-sized businesses and organizations.
